Authorities say a woman got her wires crossed last week when she texted a sheriff's deputy to make a drug deal.
Deputy P.V. Alkire of the McDowell (N.C.) County Sheriff's Office charged Amy Leigh Brown, 35, of Scooby Doo Drive in Marion with one felony count of possession with intent to sell and deliver a Schedule IV controlled substance. She was taken into custody in lieu of a $5,000 bond.
At 9:52 p.m. Thursday, Alkire received a text message from a phone number he didn't recognize. It stated, "Hey it's Amy. Do you want business tonight?"
The deputy responded that he did and instructed her to meet him at Nebo Truck Stop, according to Capt. Ricky Crisp.
The texter further stated that she had some "bones," meaning Xanax, a prescription anxiety drug, the captain stated. Alkire responded that he wanted 10.
"Amy" described what she would be driving, and Alkire found her parked behind the truck stop. Brown was the passenger.
"She had deleted all of her texts and denied texting (Alkire)," said Crisp, "so (the deputy) called the phone number the texts came from and Ms. Brown's phone rang."
Authorities found 25 Alprazolam (generic Xanax) pills on the suspect, according to reports.
