PROTIP: No matter how much you feel compelled to do so, do not attempt to mow your lake
September 17, 2011 (WESTBORO, Wis.) -- An 87-year-old man has drowned after losing control of his riding lawnmower and driving into a lake in north-central Wisconsin.
The Taylor County sheriff's office says Gene Mathey had been mowing a steep shoreline on a private lake when his lawnmower apparently got stuck.
Mathey was trying to free the mower when he lost control of the machine and was thrown in the lake.
His body was reported in the lake late Thursday afternoon. The medical examiner ruled his death an accidental drowning.
