Good idea: Defending your three-year-old child with a weapon. Bad idea: Using your three-year-old child as the weapon

TORONTO -- Toronto police have seized the child involved in a bizarre incident on a TTC streetcar last Friday.

A woman entered the streetcar at Dundas Street and Parliament Street with the child in a stroller. Shortly after, an altercation arose with another passenger.

The woman hit the other passenger using the child, whom police say is a toddler. When another passenger attempted to intervene, the woman pulled the person’s hair.

“It started with a minor misunderstanding and then flared up into what ended up happening,” said Detective Constable Jason Larmer of 55 Division.

The woman exited the streetcar with the child before police arrived. Police found her on Wednesday but have not yet laid charges, according to Officer Jennifer Knott of 55 Division. She said the child has been taken into custody and the investigation is ongoing.
