Police arrested a homeless man in Ocoee on Thursday after he brutally beat a woman over crack cocaine and tried to flee from officers on his bicycle, an arrest report states.

The report states police were called to a reported fight at a home on Taylor Street about 5:50 p.m. Thursday. There, they encountered the suspect, 51-year-old David Waller.

In his report, the arresting officer wrote that he knew Waller, who he described as a local transient who often rides around the area on his bicycle, from previous calls.

When encountered by police, Waller started riding his bike through traffic east on Franklin Street, and hurled expletives at officers who were ordering him to stop, a report said.

An officer caught up to Waller and pulled him off the bike, the report states. The officer reported Waller pushed and kicked him in an attempt to escape.

Investigators talked to a witness at the home, who said that Waller had gotten into an argument over drugs with a woman that had escalated to violence.

The witness "stated that [the victim] and David got into a fight over crack cocaine," an officer wrote. "David felt that he was cheated on how much he had gotten, and [the victim] was taking it all."

Waller began throwing items from the yard, including chairs and buckets, at the victim, the witness said. Reports state Waller threw her to the floor, punched her repeatedly in the face and beat her with a hose.

The witness intervened, police said, and Waller began fighting with him. After a brief struggle, the witness said Waller fled from the scene on his bike.

Police said the victim, who was taken to Health Central Hospital, had large bumps on her face and marks from the hose on her back.

Waller was charged with aggravated battery with a weapon and resisting an officer with violence. He remained in jail on Friday with bail set at $7,500.
