Sacramento police arrested today two armed robbery suspects in the process of robbing a convenience store - and found the suspects' two young children waiting in the getaway car, a police spokesman said.
One of the suspects tried to shoot the store clerk, but his handgun was empty, said Sgt. Norm Leong. The man hit the clerk with the gun, Leong said.

At about 12:33 p.m., two men, one armed with a handgun, entered a store in the 4000 block of 12th Avenue. The clerk dialed 911 and police dispatchers overheard the robbery in progress.
Officers caught one suspect outside the store, running for the getaway vehicle and the other suspect inside, assaulting the clerk.
In the getaway vehicle, police found two boys - one 2 years old and one 6 years old.
Carlos, Castenada, photo above left, 27, (father of the 2-year-old) was arrested on suspicion of robbery and child endangerment.
Jamone Paiva, photo above right, 25, (father of the 6-year-old) was arrested on suspicion of robbery, child endangerment and felony assault.
The clerk suffered head injuries. Information on the extent of the injuries was not available.
Leong said police are investigating if the suspects and getaway vehicle are linked to an earlier incident where shots were fired into the air from a moving vehicle near South Land Park Driver and Interstate 5.
Ammuniton used in the shooting and ammuniton found at the robbery scene are similar, Leong said.
