$$$$

Just like acting, the pay for comedians can vary greatly. Most comedians spend their first few years performing at "open mics" getting little or no money, and having a day job to pay the bills. When a comedian becomes a "working comic", he usually starts out as an emcee, and usually gets between $20 to $150 a week depending on the club and the number of shows. The "feature" act (the comedian you see before the star of the show) usually does 30 minutes and makes between $300 to $500 a week, plus hotel. The headliner can make anywhere from $600 a week to several thousand dollars a week plus hotel depending on their celebrity status. Comedians who want to make money consistently usually have to travel and network their brains out to find work.

I have performed standup comedy for 3 years. I do get paid for gigs every now and then, but still have to work for corporate America for right now.
